From fog and doughnuts to alpine- and rain- forests (West Coast Trip Day 1)

We started early in fog, but as we made the turn northwest toward Arthur’s Pass, the day grew sunny and spectacular with the snow covered Southern Alps in our view.  First stop, the town of Springfield to visit the Simpsons.

We then made our way into the mountains and stopped at a limestone outcrop called Castle Hill to explore the stones and play in the snow.

Next stop, Arthur’s Pass National Park to visit the cheeky keas (alpine parrots) as well as hike to Devil’s Punchbowl Falls in the snow.  Of course a few snowballs were thrown and some “sledding” occurred.

We ended the day with dinner and darts (and pool) in Greymouth.

Cheers, Meryl
